The 2016 DTM season opens today at the Hockenheimring with the first free-practice session, led by Eduardo Mortara (Audi Sport Team Abt) who was followed by Jamie Green (Audi Sport Team Rosberg) and Bruno Spengler (BMW Team MTEK).

Audi cars showed strong pace with five cars of them in the top 6 as Mattias Ekström (Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline) and Nico Muller (Audi Sport Team Abt) are respectively P4 and P5. Meanwhile, Mercedes cars did not look as fast as the Audi as their fastest driver, in the name of Paul Di Resta (Mercedes AMG DTM Team HWA), could not do more than P10.

The most surprising in the session is how tight lap times were as only one second separate Green in second to Adrien Tambay (Audi Sport Team Rosberg) in P20. The only incident was caused by Maxi Gotz (Mercedes AMG DTM Team HWA) as he spun into the gravel after only three laps completed.

The second free practice session will take place tomorrow ahead of the first qualifying session and the first race.
