Marc Marquez has expressed his intention to continue with a determined attack at the Malaysian GP after an excellent Friday in Sepang. The Ducati team rider, who competed against Jorge Martin, his main opposition in the title fight, highlighted that his initial performance offers a great opportunity to consolidate his lead in the championship.
Despite not having a particularly bright history at the Malaysian track, Marquez confessed that he feels comfortable with his GP26 from the very first moment on the circuit. In both practice sessions, he recorded the best time, with only a minor incident in the second part of the day that did not affect his confidence.
After the first session, the rider stated that his return was positive, highlighting that with the medium tire he felt a good connection with the bike. Marquez has been excited about the possibilities, considering that three Ducatis occupied the top spots, including his own, and that his brother Alex and Fabio Di Giannantonio also showed competitiveness.
Currently, Marquez has a 10-point lead over Martin in the overall standings, who could be limited by injuries. Nonetheless, the Alcalá de Henares rider does not intend to adopt a cautious stance. ‘I am in a position that depends on myself, so I will try to be as close as possible to the 37 points,’ he said.
However, Marquez reminded that it is only Friday and that the situation could change rapidly, as has happened in other Grands Prix. While Marco Bezzecchi, third in the table, also pointed out the strength of Ducati bikes, he acknowledged that the Aprilia team hoped to improve their performance throughout the weekend.
For the moment, the competition intensifies in Sepang, with hopes that the conditions remain favorable as the riders prepare for the rest of the qualifying sessions and the race.
