In an exciting sprint race at the Grand Prix of Indonesia, Marc Márquez achieved a surprising victory, placing himself at the top of the MotoGP world championship standings for the first time in 2026.
Despite leading most of the race, Jorge Martín could only finish fourth, while Aprilia riders Raúl Fernández and Marco Bezzecchi experienced incidents on the first turn.
The situation complicated at the first corner of Mandalika, where riders bunched together in a tight space. Apparently, despite the quick start of the Ducatis, neither Fernández nor Bezzecchi could avoid the collision, with Bezzecchi falling due to an error while trying to avoid contact.
After the first corner, Fabio Di Giannantonio recovered positions and was the one who emerged best from the situation, taking advantage of the confusion to position himself very close to the lead. On the other hand, Martín found himself at the front, surprised by his position with an Aprilia that had not performed as well as the other team bikes.
With Márquez tailing him, the race took a new turn when Martín set the fastest lap, stretching a 1.4-second lead. However, on the ninth lap, a tire pressure warning may have allowed Márquez to move ahead.
When Martín attempted to recover, he made a mistake on the penultimate lap, thus clearing the way for Márquez to ensure victory. Martín ended up losing positions, falling to fourth place behind Ai Ogura and Di Giannantonio, who had been competing alongside him for much of the race.
The fifth place went to Àlex Márquez with his Gresini Ducati team, while Pedro Acosta finished sixth after a penalty for exceeding track limits. The standings were rounded off by last year’s winner, Fermín Aldeguer, who finished seventh.
