The MotoGP rider, Marc Marquez, has expressed that, despite having dominated the competition throughout the weekend at the Sachsenring, repeating his victory in the German Grand Prix will not be an easy task. Marquez, who was the fastest in the practice sessions and won the sprint race, believes he might have to settle for a third place in the main race unless he manages to make significant improvements during the night.
Throughout the weekend, Marquez achieved the best time in Friday’s practice and placed first in the qualifying and sprint race on Saturday. However, he is aware that his success is not solely due to speed, but to his strategy, which allowed him to overtake his rivals, including his brother Alex Marquez and Fabio di Giannantonio.
With a total of 12 victories at Sachsenring, including nine in the premier class, Marquez warns that the current situation is more challenging. “At Sachsenring, winning is considered normal,” he stated. “The real question is why the others finished so close. Undoubtedly they had more, but I started first and set the pace. We need to improve, because if not, we will end up third.”
Despite his victory in the sprint race, Marquez admitted to feeling “uncomfortable” with the bike due to the changes made by his team before the race. He is trying to resolve his difficulties to ensure he can compete at the highest level during the 30 laps of the race.
After undergoing surgery on his right shoulder in May, Marquez has faced some physical limitations, but the counter-clockwise layout of the Sachsenring provides him with a certain comfort, thus making the German GP easier for him. “Here my shoulder works well. My elbow hurts, but it doesn’t limit me,” he commented.
A brother at the height
Marquez also wanted to highlight the great performance of his brother Alex, rider for the Gresini Racing team, who could have won the sprint race if it weren’t for the consequences of a fall in Catalunya that caused him fractures. “I am very happy to see my brother back competing as he does. Without the incident in Catalunya, he would have been the leader,” Marquez added. “This year he is one of the fastest riders on the grid.”
