Jorge Martín has received approval to participate in the free practice session of the Malaysian Grand Prix, which will be held this Friday. The Aprilia Racing rider passed the initial medical tests conducted by MotoGP’s official doctor, Ángel Charte, on Thursday.
However, Martín will have to undergo a new assessment after the first practice session (FP1) before receiving the green light to compete for the rest of the weekend.
The Spanish rider had suffered a fracture in his forearm during a high-speed accident in the sprint race last Saturday at Phillip Island, which left him out of the Australian Grand Prix. Although the long-distance race was later canceled due to poor visibility, Martín had lost 10 points to Ducati rider Marc Márquez in the championship standings.
His participation in the Malaysian Grand Prix is considered crucial to keeping his title hopes alive. The Aprilia team has confirmed that Martín has been declared fit to participate in FP1 and that he will be monitored after the session.
Additionally, Martín is not the only Aprilia rider arriving at the weekend with injuries. Raul Fernández will also compete with a broken finger, after being declared unfit to race in Australia before the race was canceled. Fernández has been cleared by the medical team to participate in FP1, but his injury will also be assessed after the session.
