Fuoco gets a F1 test run as Ferrari reveals Barcelona driver line-up

Antonio Fuoco, Ferrari F1 Test

Simulator driver Antonio Fuoco given a test run with Scuderia Ferrari in the post-Spanish GP in-season test at Circuit de Catalunya, Barcelona.

This will be the third time for Fuoco in a Ferrari car – his first in the 2019 machine – after having had a run in 2015 and 2016 respectively. The Italian will drive the SF90 on Wednesday (May 15), taking over from Charles Leclerc.

With Fuoco running the Ferrari, it will complete its two days of running rookie drivers after Mick Schumacher got the chance in Bahrain. The Italian manufacturer will field a second car for the Pirelli click tyre test along with Racing Point F1 Team.

The first day of the tyre test will be undertaken by Sebastian Vettel on Tuesday (May 14) with Leclerc taking over as the Monegasque gets two days of testing, even though the second will be done on unmarked compounds in preparation for 2020.

Outside the three drivers, as known from earlier, Ferrari Driver Academy’s Callum Ilott will get his first run in a F1 car with Alfa Romeo Racing on Tuesday. The British racer competes for Sauber Junior Team by Charouz in the FIA Formula 2 Championship.

Missing on the test list is Schumacher, who made his F1 debut with Ferrari and Alfa Romeo in Bahrain. But it is no surprise as both the F1 teams have fulfilled rookie driver test quota with Fuoco and Ilott respectively.

Aside Ferrari and one of the Alfa Romeo driver, only Williams has confirmed its test line-up where DAMS’ F2 racer Nicholas Latifi will drive on both the days. The British team will be working on developments to be used for the long-term future.
