As the sun eventually broke through the thick Nürburgring clouds, teams and drivers of the World Series Formula V8 3.5 entered the second Collective Test of the weekend at the German with a chance to push harder, after slightly damp conditions forced all the contenders to adopt a more careful approach in CT1 with three session scheduled today. After the two collective tests, qualifying 1 will go underway later today at 18:00 setting the grid for tomorrow’s race 1, scheduled at 16:10.

The CT2 session was headlined by championship leader Pietro Fittipaldi (Lotus) who set a quick lap of 1:41.930 to top this weekend’s most surprising man, rookie Alex Palou (Teo Martin Motorsports). The Catalan, who made his way on-track this morning to replace Nelson Mason, was the best rookie of the day and also beat Austrian Rene Binder (Lotus) by just 6 thousands of a second. It must be noted that Binder is poised to make his Formula 1 testing debut soon.

Alfonso Celis Jr (Fortec Motorsports) scored fourth place. The Mexican is also a Formula 1 prospect, having tested and taken part in selected Friday practice sessions being the third driver of the Sahara Force India Formula 1 Team. The top-5 was rounded out by fellow Mexican and CT1 leader Diego Menchaca (Fortec Motorsports).

“The first collective test was more about getting in tune with the car and track as I never drove here before. In the second session we put new tyres on and everything went good, we were quickest. Now let’s work for qualy in a couple of hours and let’s hope for the pole”.
