The provisional 23-race calendar for 2022 F1 season is released along with test dates/venues plus the same for F2 and F3 races.
After F1 hosts a record-breaking 22 races in 2021, the 2022 season will see the record get beaten when it stages 23 events as per the provisional calendar released on Friday after the latest FIA World Motor Sport Council meet in Paris.
The F1 Commission met with the FIA few days back where certain decisions were firmed and presented to the FIA WMSC, who then approved those. It includes the extension of the sprint events from the current three – the final venues of those remains unknown.
As per the provisional 2022 F1 calendar, the season is slated to start with a double-header on March 18-20 with the Bahrain GP and March 25-27 with the Saudi Arabian GP. The Jeddah event will take place at the front-end, to accommodate Qatar at the fag end.
Having missed the last two seasons, the Australian GP is slated to return on April 8-10, with the Emilia Romagna GP on April 22-24 as a replacement to Chinese GP which will be added once the conditions allows it return. The first of the five American-side races will take place on May 6-8 with the Miami GP.
The F1 circus will travel from Oceania to Europe to America for the three races and return to Europe for the Spanish GP on May 20-22, with Monaco GP on May 27-29. The Azerbaijan GP will take place on June 10-12, being paired up with Canadian GP (June 17-19).
They will back in Europe for the British GP on July 1-3, with Austrian GP on July 8-10, French GP on July 22-24 and Hungarian GP on July 29-31 to end the first half. The second half of the 2022 F1 season will kick-off with the first triple-header.
The Belgium GP will kick-off things on August 26-28, with Dutch GP on September 2-4 and Italian GP on September 9-11. It will be followed another triple-header, starting with Russian GP on September 22-24, followed by Singapore GP (September 30 – October 2) and Japanese GP (October 7-9).
The final American leg will see US GP start off things on October 21-23, followed by Mexican GP on October 28-30 and Brazilian GP on November 11-13, as the finale is slated to take place on November 18-20 with the Abu Dhabi GP. The races in Imola, Spain, Singapore and Austin is subjected to contract, while Miami is homologation.
“We are excited to announce the 2022 calendar as we prepare to enter a new era for the sport with brand new regulations and cars for next year that are designed to create closer racing,” said Stefano Domenicali. “This season has been incredible so far with great battles on the track, large audiences tuning in and fans returning to the races after the impact of the pandemic.
“We look forward to welcoming more fans back next season and hope 2022 feels more normal than the life we have all experienced in the past two years. We are very pleased with the interest in Formula 1 from places that want to host races and the growth of the sport, and believe we have a fantastic calendar for 2022 with destinations like Miami joining famous and historic venues. The pandemic is still with us, and we will therefore continue to be vigilant and safe – to protect all our personnel and the communities we visit.”
At the same time, FIA President Jean Todt added: “The impressive 2022 FIA Formula One Championship calendar is the result of the great work made by Formula 1, led by Stefano Domenicali and his team, in strong synergy with the FIA. Over the past two years, F1 has shown remarkable resilience.
“This is clearly demonstrated by the continued growth of the sport despite the important challenges of the pandemic. The 23 Grands Prix in 2022 will be an exciting showcase for the all-new cars and I am looking forward to it.”

F2 and F3:
As revealed earlier in the month about F2 and F3 returning to the old format on the F1 support bill, the calendar of the same was also revealed. The former will see 14 rounds of two races each, while the latter will nine events across the 2022 season.
The 2022 F2 season will kick-off in Bahrain, with races in Saudi Arabia, Imola, Spain, Monaco, Azerbaijan, Britain, Austria, Hungary, Belgium, Netherlands, Monza, Russia and Abu Dhabi, while F3 will take place in Bahrain, Imola, Spain, Britain, Austria, Hungary, Belgium, Netherlands and Monza.
“I am pleased to present the largest calendar we have ever had in Formula 2, with 14 rounds and 28 races. This results from a strong will from our stakeholders to have F2 race alongside as many Formula 1 Grand Prix as possible,” said Bruno Michel.
“A lot of circuits have expressed their interest to have our championship added to their race weekend programme, but for costs reasons, we cannot increase the number of rounds more than we already have. This calendar will of course induce an increase of our teams’ budgets, but we will support them so that they are able to manage the extra costs.”
Regarding F3, he added: “Our 2022 Formula 3 season will start at the Bahrain International Circuit, at the opening round of the FIA Formula 1 World Championship and the new Formula 2 campaign. It will be very exciting to start all together.
“Formula 3 will be present at two more Formula 1 Grand Prix in 2022 than in 2021. It will allow our drivers to race on additional F1 tracks compared to the most recent campaign, and to be with F2 and F1 at every event. As we announced it last month, we will introduce a new race weekend format from next season, with two races per event, the Feature Race taking place on Sunday.”
