F1 has confirmed the six grands prix where the 2023 sprint races will take place with one street course and five normal circuits on the list.

After the teams agreed to increase the amount of sprint races from 2022 to 2023, F1 has now confirmed the six venues that will host them next year. The first one will take place in Baku followed by Austria, Belgium, Qatar, USA and Brazil.

The Azerbaijan event will be the sole street race while Qatar will be the sole night event. While announcing the races, F1 also noted the reasons for the selection. The mentioned the overtaking opportunities and high-speed sections of the selected tracks.

Additionally, F1 shared an example of increased viewership for a sprint event from 2021 to 2022. The Friday audience during 2022 Austrian GP in a sprint weekend was 39% higher than the Friday of 2021, across the 23 markets they looked at.

“We have seen a hugely positive reaction to the F1 Sprint events during the first two years of its running, and we can’t wait to bring even more action to fans with six events next year, including our first US F1 Sprint in Austin,” said Stefano Domenicali.

“The introduction of the F1 Sprint has created a race weekend that includes three days of competitive racing action and brings more entertainment to fans of the sport as well as additional value for key stakeholders including teams, broadcasters, partners, and host venues.”

At the same time FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem noted: “Following strong collaboration between the FIA and FOM, and the approval of the World Motor Sport Council, we are pleased to reveal the six events for Sprints for the 2023 season. We look forward to this exciting addition to the calendar.”
