Ryan Briscoe was the fastest in the first free practice for the IndyCar Series oval in Fontana, California. Honda’s Briscoe doubles up with Marco Andretti in this session. The first Chevrolet is Pagenaud in third.
After 10 weeks followed by competition and one of rest, the IndyCar returns to Auto Club Speedway, California for the third race on an oval this year, the second race of 500 miles.
A circuit where the “rookies” have never raced here and therefore have never had the privilege of shooting alone for a few minutes to take measurements of the circuit.
In this session of debutantes, all three have made the most of his time, Gabby Chaves (Bryan Herta Autosport) finished with the fastest time followed by Sage Karam (Chip Ganassi Racing) and Stefano Coletti (KV Racing Technology).
The other drivers were able to roll 40 minutes in a circuit that will have similar conditions for the race tomorrow.
The Honda from Andretti Autosport team during the preseason tested aerodynamic kit of ovals on this track, and it seems to have done well today, watching as Marco Andretti was the first to surpass the time of the beginners.
In the final minutes the track was cleaned and the drivers were able to enjoy five minutes to the limit, but with traffic problems. Meanwhile, the experienced Ryan Briscoe (Peterson Schmidt Motorsports) was able to get the first time from Marco by 2/100.
