Marco Bezzecchi, rider of Aprilia Racing, has successfully undergone surgery to treat his broken collarbone after an accident during the qualifying of the German Grand Prix. Bezzecchi crashed on Saturday and immediately returned to Italy to be treated by Dr. Giuseppe Porcellini.
After the injury, Aprilia confirmed that surgery was necessary. The operation, performed on Sunday morning at a hospital in Modena, was deemed successful, with the fracture “reduced and stabilized” as part of the treatment.
With the MotoGP championship entering a four-month summer break, Bezzecchi aims to return to competition without missing any more races. The British Grand Prix, scheduled for August 9 at Silverstone, is his immediate target.
According to a statement from Aprilia, “Marco Bezzecchi has undergone successful surgery performed by Dr. Giuseppe Porcellini at the University Hospital of Sassuolo, where the fracture of his left collarbone was reduced and stabilized.” The statement adds that, although it is early to establish a specific recovery timeframe, they expect the rider to be able to participate in the upcoming GP at Silverstone.
Bezzecchi had achieved the second-best time during Q2 when he suffered a drop in Curve 7, which caused his fall. After rolling into the gravel, he was seen struggling to walk before being taken to the medical center. X-rays revealed a complete and displaced fracture of the left collarbone, which left him out of competition for the weekend.
So far, Bezzecchi has not scored points in the last four consecutive Sunday races. Before his forced retirement at Sachsenring, he had been involved in incidents that caused him to lose valuable points to his teammate, Jorge Martin, who now surpasses him by 11 points in the championship standings.
