Marco Bezzecchi, rider from Aprilia Racing, is determined to continue fighting for the MotoGP title in 2026, despite suffering a significant setback in the recent San Marino Grand Prix.
Bezzecchi, who started from pole position after a record time in qualifying, saw a potential victory slip away when he fell at turn 13 during the first lap. This mistake, contrary to his expectations, now leaves him 33 points behind the championship leaders, Marc Márquez and Jorge Martín, with only eight races remaining.
After a promising start to the season, which saw him lead the championship with a 17-point advantage, his trajectory has been marked by a series of mistakes and injuries. Now, the pressure is mounting on his maturity as a rider against high-quality opponents like Márquez.
In the lead-up to the upcoming Austria Grand Prix, Bezzecchi expressed optimism: «Yes, it’s a big gap, but it’s not impossible. With the current format, the chance to gain or lose points is greater. My priority now is to regain my consistency,» he commented.
Additionally, he reflected on his fall in Misano: «I’ve reviewed the data to understand what happened. It’s painful to watch the replay, but you have to learn from mistakes and focus on the positive aspects, like the speed shown during the race.»
This setback adds to a complicated year, where he has accumulated five races without scoring points. Nevertheless, his recent performance with a double podium at Silverstone offers hope. Bezzecchi believes in his ability to overcome obstacles and continue fighting for the championship in the upcoming races.
