Bahrain International Circuit – the host of F1 grand prix – has prepared a breathing aide for non-ICU patients in their Kingdom.
With F1 teams joining in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic in their respective countries, the organisers of Bahrain GP have done their bit in their Kingdom, as they prepared a breathing aide device which can help any non-ICU patients.
Bahrain is the second F1 circuit to be helping in fighting COVID-19 pandemic, after Buddh International Circuit giving their premises as isolation facility. The Middle Eastern circuit has worked with their Kingdom’s leaders to make this project work.
The device is suitable for patients who require ventilation support but they are not in critical condition. It was built by BIC engineers along with Respiratory Therapy Department, Medical Equipment Department and Intensive Care doctors at Salmaniya Medical Complex.
BIC built two designs, both of which has met the criteria, where the first project leader was Kamel Al-Taan and the second being Tareq AlTajer. The test work has been carried out extensively by the team, with Ministry of Health approving the machines as well.
The devices were designed in just under two weeks and work is underway to develop the first 100 machines under a dedicated facility at the Bahrain circuit. They have a blueprint designs available for free for anyone needing similar solutions around the globe.
Fayez Ramzy Fayez, Chief Operating Officer at the BIC, said: “At a time of global crisis, we have been seeking ways in which the BIC can support the fight against COVID-19. Our engineers have met that challenge by designing a ventilator system specifically to support those suffering from COVID-19.
“As this is a global effort, we are happy to make these designs available to other organizations around the world who are seeking to find similar solutions.” The 2020 Bahrain GP, meanwhile, remains postponed but could take place at the end of the season.
