Campos Racing’s Alexander Peroni will not compete in FIA Formula 3 (F3) Championship’s sprint race at Monza as Prema’s Marcus Armstrong loses second.
Following a violent crash for Campos’ Peroni towards the end of the feature F3 race at Monza, where the Australian went airbourne after going over the sausage kerb at Parabolica as his car flipped over multiple times.
It finally came to a rest on top of the tyre barrier with the catch fence getting damaged and the marshals underneath having no injuries. Peroni walked away from the crash as he was taken to the medical center.
From there he moved to the hospital as he has been ruled out from the sprint F3 race, with the team noting that he is in stable condition. Peroni, meanwhile, wrote about suffering from broken vertebrae.
It stated: “After his crash at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza during FIA Formula 3’s race 1, Peroni was transported to hospital. Peroni is in stable condition and will remain under observation for the next few hours.
“Therefore, Peroni won’t take part in the second race tomorrow.” It means, the Spanish outfit will only have Sebastien Fernandez and Alessio Deledda to run in the sprint F3 race at Monza.
Peroni’s post said: “That was a big one. Currently recovering in hospital with a broken vertebra. Not sure the recovery time but hope to be back in the car as soon as possible. Thanks everyone for the messages and support I really appreciate it.”
Elsewhere, Prema’s first 1-2-3 finish of 2019 has been rattled with Ferrari junior Armstrong losing his second place finish after a 20-second penalty handed to the Kiwi for speeding under safety car.
He exceeded the minimum delta time under the first safety car period. With Robert Shwartzman winning, it helped F3 title contender Jehan Daruvala to second with Jenzer’s Yuki Tsunoda taking the final podium position.
Armstrong dropped to 21st in the order as Richard Verschoor, Pedro Piquet, Jake Hughes, Liam Lawson, Fabio Scherer, Logan Sargeant and Leonardo Pulcini rounding out the Top 10 position behind the Top 3.
It helped Pulcini to score a point, while Scherer took reverse grid pole. For Daruvala, he has 147 points now to Shwartzman 179, with the gap down to 32 between the two as Amrstrong has dropped back behind Juri Vips.
Meanwhile, Carlin’s Felipe Drugovich was found to exceed under the second safety car and was handed a five-second penalty. The Brazilian dropped from 11th to 16th as a result.
