Lewis Hamilton continued to led the way for Mercedes in the second practice session of F1 Monaco GP from teammate Valtteri Bottas.
Hamilton (1m11.118s) set the pace in FP2 of F1 Monaco GP weekend at Monte Carlo despite having had an off at Turn 1 on the same set of tyres with the British driver leading a Mercedes 1-2 with Bottas (1m11.199s) in second.
The two were only 0.081s apart with Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel (1m11.881s) in third was more than half a second behind both the Mercedes drivers. The German also had an off at Turn 1 where he almost hit the barrier but braked on time.
In fourth was Red Bull Racing’s Pierre Gasly (1m11.938s) as his teammate Max Verstappen (1m12.052s) was kept mostly in the garage with mechanics working on his car to finish sixth behind Toro Rosso’s Alexander Albon (1m12.031s).
The Thai racer did well to be in the Top 5 after an early quick lap, with Haas’ Kevin Magnussen (1m12.174s) in seventh from Alfa Romeo Racing’s Antonio Giovinazzi (1m12.239s) in eighth with teammate Kimi Raikkonen (1m12.342s) in ninth.
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc (1m12.350s) couldn’t set a quick time to end up only 10th with Haas’ Romain Grosjean (1m12.392s) 11th from McLaren pair of Lando Norris (1m12393s) and Carlos Sainz (1m12.419s) despite Norris having a floor change.
While his teammate had a fine run, Toro Rosso’s Daniil Kvyat (1m12.577s) finished 14th ahead of Racing’s Sergio Perez (1m12.752s) with Renault duo of Nico Hulkenberg (1m12.872s) and Daniel Ricciardo (1m12.888s) only 16th and 17th respectively.
The struggle, meanwhile, continued for Racing Point’s Lance Stroll in 18th after his lap of 1m14.558s with the Canadian finishing ahead of Williams George Russell (1m15.052s) and Robert Kubica (1m15.146s).
