The first race of DTM at Hungaroring has been distraught by a Safety car period at half of the race which helped a lot the final podium finishers Paul Di Resta, Timo Glock and Bruno Spengler.
The race started with René Rast keeping the lead from pole position ahead of Mattias Ekström and Jamie Green. In the back, Tom Blomqvist spun off while brand team mate joined the pits at the end of the lap.
With only 11 minutes from the start of the race, Paul Di Resta and Timo Glock decided to join the pits. And only one minute later, the safety car came out due to the retirement of Maxime Martin, which helped Di Resta, Glock and Spengler to reduce the pace with the leading group.
At the re-start of the race Ekström took the lead while Augsto Farfus and DTM point’s leader, Lucas Auer spun off.
Then the leader started to join the pit lane for the manadatory pit stop, but all of them went out behind Di Resta, Glock and Spengler who will end up as the podium finishers.
In the championship battle Auer out of the points today still in the lead with 8 points more than Green, and 16 more than Rockenfeller.
