Kalle Rovanpera, two-time world rally champion, has received medical approval to resume his motorsport career. The Finnish driver was set to enter the 2026 Super Formula season, but an unspecified health problem forced him to postpone his plans.
At just 25 years old, Rovanpera was ready to make a significant shift from rallying to single-seater racing with Toyota. However, his debut in this new category was impacted by an episode of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, which made it difficult for him to maintain balance and vision, forcing him to withdraw from an important test last December.
Now, after a period dedicated to his recovery and physical training at the KHU institute, specializing in high-level competitive sport in Jyväskylä, Rovanpera is in a position to plan for a gradual return to competition. The goal is to reintegrate into competitive racing in 2027.
Toyota has shared an update on his health, indicating that the driver has reactivated his physical training and that, with improvements in his condition, he can look forward to his sporting future with optimism. In the team’s words, “Kalle has made significant progress with his recovery and can now make plans for a return to the track in different stages.”
As Rovanpera and Toyota Gazoo Racing work on the next steps for the driver, further announcements regarding his competitive program are expected in the near future.
