The concession system, designed to help manufacturers facing more difficulties in MotoGP, will continue in the new era of 850cc bikes that will begin next year. This initiative, implemented for the first time in 2014, seeks to classify manufacturers into different groups based on their results.
After the success of the original system that helped Ducati compete with Japanese manufacturers, the sports management of MotoGP decided to reinstate the concessions in 2024, but this time to allow Honda, Yamaha, KTM, and Aprilia to catch up with Ducati.
With the new technical regulations planned for the 2027 season, the concessions will be maintained, but with some important variations. All manufacturers that have competed this year will start the 2027 season in group B, which will be made up of manufacturers without a specific prior position, while Ducati, Aprilia, KTM, and Honda will settle in groups C and D.
Additionally, a first ‘checkpoint’ has been established at the halfway point of the season, where reevaluations will be made based on the results of the first races. Manufacturers that did not compete in 2026 will start the new season in range D, with identical reviews at the same checkpoint.
Restart after Valencia
The regulations state that, after the Valencia Grand Prix on November 29, the counter will be reset, meaning that the equipment and tests will be organized under the new conditions for the 2027 preseason tests. Thus, all bikes will be in group B during the first tests that will subsequently be conducted.
Teams will be able to count on contracted riders for the upcoming season, although they will not be able to carry the colors of their new brand until January 1. This season will prevent tests with riders not designated as test riders, thereby limiting the strategies of some manufacturers who will be able to conduct tests with regular riders during the period leading up to the end of 2025.
