Lewis Hamilton got pole position 0.5s ahead of his team mate Nico Rosberg. Sebastian Vettel will start 3rd with Ricciardo in 4th.

Tyre strategy was key in Q1. The main teams, Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull and Williams, tried to make it to the next round with medium tyres. However, the huge gap between the lap times with the mediums and the softs wouldn’t allow them to stay calmly in their box. As the other drivers were improving their times with the soft compound, they were forced to go out with softs too. The only one who tried again with the mediums was Daniel Ricciardo, and he succeeded. The ones who didn’t and couldn’t make it through Q1 were Button, Ericsson, Nasr, Merhi and Stevens.

The joy for being in Q2 for Fernando Alonso wouldn’t last long, as his car stopped due to an electrical issue before he could even complete one lap. The Mercedes were fastest, with Lewis Hamilton 0.5s ahead of Rosberg. Hülkenberg, Sainz, Pérez, Maldonado and Alonso wouldn’t be fighting for pole position in Q3.

Finally, Lewis Hamilton got pole position ahead of Nico Rosberg. The fight for 3rd was also very close, but Vettel managed to stay ahead of Ricciardo for less than a tenth of a second. Räikkönen, Bottas, Kvyat, Massa, Verstappen and Grosjean will be the drivers starting from 5th to 10th.
