Fernando Alonso drove the Alpine F1 machine ahead of the start of the 2021 FIA WEC’s Le Mans 24 Hours, with Esteban Ocon also present.

Alonso and Alpine made history at Circuit de la Sarthe as a F1 car went around the track ahead of the start of the 2021 WEC’s Le Mans 24 Hours race. The French manufacturer brought down its R.S.20 showcar in their regular livery for the showrun.

Alpine is being represented on the Le Mans 24 Hours grid by Signatech Alf Matmut in the lead Hypercar category, with the A480-Gibson being driven by an experienced line-up of Nicolas Lapierre, Andre Negrao and Matthieu Vaxiviere.

The team qualified third for the start of the Le Mans 24 Hours, just behind the Toyota pair. Before the action kicked-off, though, Alpine brought its F1 drivers Alonso and Ocon to cheer on its sportscar outfit, where the Spaniard got the chance to drive around too.

Alonso is not a new face in the endurance paddock, having won the 2019 Le Mans 24 Hours race in the lead LMP1 category with Toyota, while also winning the 2018/19 WEC drivers’ championship. It is first visit to the circuit as a former champion.
