The track layout of the newest FIA Formula E Championship race at Seoul has been revealed, with the ePrix to make its debut in 2019/20.

There is no doubt that Seoul, South Korea, was a surprise pick to feature in the provisional 2019/20 Formula E calendar, which was revealed after the Paris World Motor Sport Council meet. Many pointed towards the F1 venue to be the hosts but it isn’t the case.

The Formula E organisers have finally revealed details of the new 2.8km and 19-turn circuit, which is around the city’s Olympic Park with seven of the 19 corners inside the Jamsil Sports Complex and the former Olympic stadium.

Naturally, the circuit is pending per the FIA homologation, with the race scheduled to take place on May 3, 2020. “I’m so excited to be coming to Korea and the streets of Seoul for the first time with the Formula E Championship next season,” said Alejandro Agag.

“Seoul is such a vibrant and versatile city with sporting heritage and experience in hosting international events. The series will be showcasing speed and performance at the former Olympic venue, using a unique track with a spectacular stadium section.”

Chairman of Seoul EPrix 2020 Racing Event Management, Hee-Beom Lee said: “In addition to aiming the Formula E event in Korea by introducing eco-friendly automotive technology through a futuristic competition, this year’s event will also contribute the development of the domestic automotive industry by minimising environmental damage such as air pollution, and position the championship as the next-generation racing event.”

And finally, the President of ABB Korea, Sweeseng Lee, added: “I am very happy that ABB Formula E Championship will be held in the city of Seoul for the first time and the current partnership supports the background of ABB’s vision for sustainable future.”

Among the 11 races to take place in the 2019/20 season, Korea’s Seoul is the only brand new country for the electric series to visit. Among the tracks, it remains to be seen where the second Chinese race is hosted with Sanya not yet confirmed.
