While doubts were still present, the Spanish driver Oriol Servia will participate at the centennial edition of the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race. He will carry his eights start on May 29 at the wheel of a third car hired by the Schmidt Peterson Motorsports and will wear the number 77.

Spanish 41 year old will support both regular drivers James Hinchcliffe and Mikhail Aleshin for his 198th start in the series since 2000. This will be his second start of the season after replacing Australian driver Will Power with no prior warning for Team Penske in St. Petersburg.

Oriol Servia said the 100th running of the series biggest race “will be the most special in our era, maybe of all time, and I wanted to make sure I was in a team that can give me a program contend for the win”

Schmidt added: “This is a long time coming, I’ve respected Oriol’s performance at the 500 for many years. I’ve been trying to put this together for quite some time and it’s not a typical one-off deal. It’s getting maximum preparation.”

Oriol Servia’ best result for the Indy 500 race was a 4th place in 2012 at the wheel of a Dreyer & Reinbold Racing car.
