Bob Bell, Mercedes’ technical director, will leave the team at the end of the season. The team is not planning any replacement but Paddy Lowe, currently executive director, should assume Bell’s responsibilities.
Bob Bell will leave Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 at the end of the 2014 season the team announced in a statement. It says Bell resigned last December but that he wished to continue to work with Mercedes up until November.
He joined Mercedes in 2011 but now had “the intention of pursuing new challenges outside the company”.
According to the statement, Mercedes is not planning to replace Bell but Paddy Low, current executive director, should assume his responsibilities.
Bell started his career in Formula One back in 1992 when he joined McLaren as aerodynamicist. He then moved on to work with Benetton, Jordan Grand Prix and Renault F1. He became Technical Director of the latter in 2003 and left the team in 2010 to join Mercedes GP.
Mercedes is currently heading the constructors’ championship while drivers Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton are heading the drivers’.
This announcement comes a day after Stefano Domenicali stepped down as Ferrari’s team principal.
