Honda’s Marc Marquez led the two Suzuki riders Alex Rins and Joan Mir as rain cut short the Jerez MotoGP test’s second day.

The MotoGP riders were confined to their pits for most of the day at Jerez after rain hampered the proceedings with Honda’s Marquez ending as fastest with a 1m37.820s lap from Suzuki’s Rins (1m37.837s) and Mir (1m37.959s) in the Top 3.

Marquez did 14 laps but with shoulder pain as he aggravated the injury he had last year for which he had to undergo surgery. The Spaniard will go under the hammer again in the winter, so as to be ready in time for the 2020 MotoGP season.

The Yamaha side had Maverick Vinales (1m37.964s) in fourth ahead of Petronas SRT of Fabio Quartararo (1m37.973s) with Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso (1m37.986s) in sixth from the other Petronas SRT of Franco Morbidelli (1m38.100s).

Pramac Ducati’s Jack Miller (1m38.113s) was eighth with just four laps to his name, one less than Dovizioso, as KTM’s Pol Espargaro (1m38.221s) was ninth ahead of Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi (1m38.352s) in the Top 10.

Aprilia’s Andrea Iannone (1m38.442s) finished 11th with four laps, as Ducati’s Danilo Petrucci (1m38.452s) was 12th from LCR Honda’s Cal Crutchlow (1m38.674s), Avintia Ducati’s Tito Rabat (1m38.813s) and Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaro (1m38.940s) in Top 15.

Suzuki MotoGP test rider Sylavin Guintoli (1m38.962s) was 16th from Honda rookie Alex Marquez (1m39.224s) as KTM test rider Dani Pedrosa (1m39.594s) returned to be 18th from the Ducati tester Michele Pirro (1m39.845s).

After a heavy crash, Tech 3 KTM’s Iker Lecuona (1m39.880s) returned to action to be 20th from Aprilia’s MotoGP tester Bradley Smith (1m39.884s), KTM rookie Brad Binder (1m39.943s) and Avintia Ducati’s Eric Granado (1m49.921s).
