BMW Andretti’s Maximilian Gunther was quickest on the final day of 2019/20 FIA Formula E Championship pre-season test at Valencia.

After finishing a close second in the first days, Gunther finally got the top spot on Day 3 when the Formula E circus returned to the track at Valencia. They had a day’s gap after Wednesday running and returned on Friday for the final day.

Gunther was quickest with a 1m15.087s lap but the German’s day ended by causing a red flag with just over five minutes remaining on the clock. He beat fellow German and birthday boy Pascal Wehrlein (1m15.190s) in the Mahindra Racing car.

GEOX Dragon’s Nico Muller (1m15.198s) was third overall despite stopping on the track in the afternoon session, with DS Techeetah’s Antonio Felix da Costa in fourth – once again quicker than reigning Formula E champion and teammate Jean-Eric Vergne in ninth.

Ahead of him were Jaguar Racing’s Mitch Evans in fifth with Nissan e.Dams’ Sebastien Buemi sixth, BMW Andretti’s Alexander Sims seventh and Mahindra’s Jerome D’Ambrosio eighth. The Top 10 was rounded by Venturi Racing’s Felipe Massa.

There was another mock race in the afternoon session which was won by Nissan’ Buemi ahead of Porsche’s Andre Lotterer. The German manufacturer completed its first-ever Formula E pre-season test along with another newcomer, Mercedes.

Lotterer was 16th with Neel Jani in 22nd, while Mercedes’ Stoffel Vandoorne was 17th and Nyck de Vries 21st. The Belgian caused a red flag in the afternoon session along with Muller and his teammate Brendon Hartley.

Among the other front-runners, the Audi duo finished outside the Top 10 with Lucas di Grassi in 13th, while Day 1 topper Envision Virgin’s Sam Bird was 11th with Day 2 topper and his teammate Robin Frijns only 18th – both finishing ahead of Gunther.
