Envision Virgin Racing remained on top on Day 2 of FIA Formula E Championship’s pre-season test at Valencia with Robin Frijns taking charge.

Teammate Sam Bird started the 2019/20 Formula E pre-season test at Valencia by finishing on top on Day 1. Frijns continued the charge on Day 2 but the Top 4 was separated by a mere 0.060s and the Top 21 under a second of his time.

Frijns set a 1m15.377s to finish ahead of the two BMW Andretti drivers Maximilian Gunther (1m15.434s) and Alexander Sims (1m15.437s), with Nissan e.Dams’ Oliver Rowland close behind in fourth. GEOX Dragon’s Nico Muller was fifth.

Muller’s teammate Brendon Hartley was seventh as the duo sandwiched DS Techeetah’s Antonio Felix da Costa in sixth – the Portuguese once again finishing in the lead with teammate Jean-Eric Vergne only 12th fastest in the end.

The two Jaguar Racing drivers James Calado and Mitch Evans were eighth and ninth respectively with Audi’s Lucas di Grassi rounding out the Top 10. The field also ran a mock ePrix during the day which was won by Mercedes’ Stoffel Vandoorne.

The Belgian was 17th in the order, though, after teammate Nyck de Vries had more troubles to counter to be only 22nd. Porsche’s Andre Lotterer also had an off with the German not taking part in the mock race to be 18th.

His teammate Neel Jani finished 21st as Day 1 pace-setter Bird was only 13th after his day ended early due to an off. There won’t be any track action on Thursday which will be devoted for the media but the Formula E field will return on Friday for the final day.
