Ferrari has trimmed its F1 academy drivers to six for 2024 season as Jock Clear takes charge for the new season.
With the 2023 F1 season done and dusted, it is not just the teams working on their Formula 1 programme but their academies is taking shape too. The first team to reveal its line-up is Ferrari, who have chosen to trim down to six drivers.
They are down from eight as Arthur Leclerc and James Wharton have left the academy, whereby the Monegasque will remain with the Ferrari family but not as a academy member. They will have one racing in F2, one in F3, two in Formula Regional and two in F1 Academy.
In a larger change, Marco Matassa will leave Ferrari Driver Academy with Clear taking up charge as the head of FDA. He will look after Oliver Bearman, who will continue for a second season in F2 with Prema Racing – eyeing for a title win.
Likewise, Dino Beganovic will remain in F3 with Prema Racing and Rafael Camara will remain in Formula Regional European Championship with Prema Racing. The latter will be joined by Tuukka Taponen, who is stepping up to compete with R-ace GP.
The two girls in the academy – Maya Weug and Aurelia Nobels – are set to compete in F1 Academy. The former was competing in Formula Regional, while the latter raced in Italian F4 last year and are on the move up the ladder in a bid to race in F3 in future.
Interestingly, there are no new additions to the academy for 2024 season. It remains to be seen what happens with Rene Lammers – son of Jan Lammers – who won the FDA Scouting World Finals for 202 season. Here’s in list –
Oliver Bearman – F2, Prema Racing
Dino Beganovic – F3, Prema Racing
Rafael Camara – Formula Regional, Prema Racing
Tuukka Taponen – Formula Regional, R-ace GP
Maya Weug – F1 Academy (Team TBC)
Aurelia Nobels – F1 Academy (Team TBC)
