F1 Nation podcast talks about AlphaTauri-Red Bull line-up, upcoming Turkish GP as Felipe Massa features on to speak up on multiple topics.
Beginning with an update on Yuki Tsunoda’s recent F1 test, conducted with AlphaTauri at Imola, the episode would then see hosts Tom Clarkson and Alex Jacques weigh the benefits and downsides of the Japanese driver’s possible entry into the sport.
The biggest fear of the hosts is what a Tsunoda-Gasly line-up at AlphaTauri could mean for Red Bull’s Alex Albon, as he is under threat of losing his F1 seat. When a mailed-in question on the future of Lewis Hamilton was raised to the hosts, speculation ensued on why he might not have signed with Mercedes once more for 2021.
Clarkson postulated that Hamilton might want to get a seventh F1 championship before negotiations got underway. Subsequently, an interview with Felipe Massa was played, the Brazilian champion discussing his past successes at the returning Istanbul Park circuit, and his involvement in karting as part of his retirement.
Massa forecasted that Turkey’s Turn 8 would be flat-out, before discussing Hamilton’s dominance, and his record-smashing antics. The Brazilian, who lost the 2008 title to the Brit in dramatic fashion at a Brazil season finale, was complimentary of the now six-time champion, drawing parallels between him and Michael Schumacher, whose championship record he is likely soon to match.
Massa also discussed Stefano Domenicali, and the relationship he had with the ex-Ferrari boss for whom he drove. As the interview ended, the hosts were complimentary of the Brazilian, with Clarkson also sharing stories of Istanbul park – one involving catastrophic food poisoning.
Jacques shared a more positive story of the venue, detailing the exiting 2010 Turkish Grand Prix – a race that saw the Red Bull pairing collect each other, with Hamilton ultimately emerging victorious. They told of the Brit’s confusion and frustration despite his win, in part because of team orders. The hosts also gave their two cents on who of the Red Bull pairing was at fault for the infamous collision, which soiled intra-team relations.
