Williams F1 test driver Roy Nissany has been confirmed to race for Trident in FIA Formula 2 (F2) Championship in 2020.

Having announced Marino Sato as its first driver for the 2020 F2 season, Trident has officially confirmed Williams F1 test driver Nissany for the second seat, which completes the whole grid for the new season, to kick-off from March onward.

Nissany was all-but confirmed at Trident when he was announced as a new Williams F1 tester but his name was not confirmed by the Italian F2 outfit until now. “I am obviously very excited to be joining Trident Racing,” he said.

“I really enjoyed the work already done together in Abu Dhabi and these last few days at the factory. This is a great opportunity for me, because Trident Racing has shown that could be the right place for a young to be and I intend to make the most of this opportunity, whilst doing the best possible job for the team.”

“We want to give Roy Nissany a warm welcome to the Team Trident family,” team owner Maurizio Salvadori added.I am convinced that he will do very well with our team. Our technical staff had the opportunity to witness his skills in the past and in the post-season tests of Yas Marina at the end of last season.

“Over his solid career in Motorsport, Roy Nissany has distinguished himself for his qualities behind the wheel in many occasions, scoring very good results, which I am sure he will repeat together with Team Trident.”

Meanwhile, team manager Giacomo Ricci added: “It is with great satisfaction that we announce the agreement with Roy Nissany, a highly experienced driver. I am sure that, within Team Trident, Roy will have the opportunity to grow up during the season and fight for the points zone.

“He made a positive impression in testing at Abu Dhabi, and our technical staff will give their one hundred per cent to help him deliver a convincing season. The FIA Formula 2 Championship is an extremely competitive category, and it is also a key step for drivers aiming Formula 1. A very challenging year awaits Nissany.”
