The Williams drivers, Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon, have shared their thoughts on the team’s difficult 2026 Formula 1 season. With a recovery plan in place, they acknowledge that it is unlikely the team will achieve the goals set for the second half of the year.
In an episode of the Williams podcast Team Torque, prior to the summer break, Albon and Sainz reflected on a very challenging first half of the season. The new wave of regulations has posed a real challenge for Williams, which has struggled to replicate last year’s results.
“As everyone has seen, this first half has been difficult, but I think we are making progress,” Sainz stated. He also noted that the last few weeks have been better for the team and that the summer break could be beneficial.
The Spanish driver commented that constructive talks are ongoing about the current car and next year’s. “There have been good and interesting ideas for both the current and future,” he added, while acknowledging that they do not expect to be at the desired level in the second half of the season.
Albon concurred with Sainz that Williams is determined to prevent this year’s difficulties from recurring in the future. “There is a clear plan in place, and we need to take advantage of the week before the Zandvoort race to manage the new data and areas for improvement,” Albon said. “There is a strong desire to ensure we do not go through the same thing again.”
Currently, Williams occupies ninth position in the constructors’ standings with just 11 points accumulated.
