Max Verstappen, driver for Red Bull Racing, faces a considerable challenge during the Dutch Grand Prix. After several victories since the race returned to the calendar in 2021, this edition has been particularly difficult, with issues concerning both car performance and personal health.

In a session with local media, Verstappen admitted: ‘I don’t feel quite well and I feel a bit like I have the flu. I don’t have the energy I usually have.’ Nevertheless, the driver believes that his condition will not affect his performance on the track: ‘Once inside the car, generally everything is fine.’

Performance Issues with the Vehicle

Verstappen’s situation is further complicated by a disappointing performance of his car at Zandvoort. He qualified seventh, over four-tenths of a second behind the pole sitter, Lando Norris. ‘We changed many things on the car after the sprint race, but none of these modifications made a difference,’ he commented.

According to the driver, the Zandvoort circuit has highlighted the weaknesses of the RB22 model. ‘The main problem is the balance of the car, which is not consistent. We have noticed this throughout the season, but it is more evident here due to the characteristics of the layout,’ Verstappen added.

Expectations for the Grand Prix

Despite the setbacks, Verstappen remains positive, acknowledging that for him, the maximum he can aspire to is seventh place during the race, especially if the rain does not alter the situation. ‘It will be difficult to achieve a victory, but I will try to enjoy this last opportunity at my home, even though I am not in the best conditions,’ he concluded.

With an era that closes an important chapter full of memorable moments, Verstappen continues to remain optimistic about the future and the opportunity to face new challenges on the track.
