Max Verstappen has demonstrated his superiority in an exciting event held at Silverstone, where he managed to surpass 100 amateur karts in just 14 laps. After starting from the last position on the grid, the four-time world champion completed the challenge in 37 minutes as part of the “Max vs 100” event, organized by Red Bull.
The event took place on a specifically designed circuit that combined the karting track with sections of the Formula 1 circuit, such as Brooklands. The lap time was calculated at approximately two minutes for each kart. Verstappen, aiming to surpass all competitors within 30 laps, managed to eliminate one amateur with each overtaking he performed.
Although all drivers used identical karts, the amateurs had the advantage of having a ‘fast lap’ during the first half of the race, which allowed them to take a shorter route. Nevertheless, it was clear that Verstappen’s quality was unbeatable, as he managed to overtake 64 karts in a single initial lap, showcasing his ability to avoid the chaos prevailing on the track.
“As I walked towards the grid and saw where I had to start, I thought, ‘phew, this is way back’,” Verstappen commented. “After the first lap, I felt like things were going well.”
The Dutch driver even resorted to bold strategies, such as taking shorter trajectories, giving a competitive air to the challenge, which imposed few rules regarding driving techniques. Quickly, on the fourth lap, he had already overtaken 75 competitors and continued his upward march to reach 84 on the next lap, recalling his comeback work at the 2024 Brazilian Grand Prix.
“The first lap was chaos; you wanted to survive, and then it was a matter of hunting the others one by one,” added the driver, who finished the race with an exciting double overtaking to gain two positions in the last corner.
