Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing face the future with optimism after a remarkable recovery in the current Formula 1 season. With two victories in the last three grands prix, the team has returned to being among the best, although the title is unreachable at this moment.
Currently, Verstappen is just eight points behind Lewis Hamilton in the drivers’ championship standings, and with a podium position within reach, the Dutchman’s goal is to conclude the season within the top 3. However, what is important for him is to be in competitive conditions and not just limit himself to seeking positions on the table.
Constant Improvement
The key to the recovery has been the implementation of significant updates to the car during the season. Verstappen has pointed out that although some aspects of the 2026 car cannot be completely resolved, the improvements that have been introduced are working well.
Verstappen stated: ‘The most relevant thing is to see where we were at the beginning of the season and where we are now. We have solved many of the problems we had with some components of the car, which is very positive looking ahead to next year.’
A New Wind Tunnel on the Horizon
Another factor that gives hope to the Dutch driver is the construction of a new wind tunnel, which will be operational by early 2027. The current tunnel is the oldest on the grid and has presented significant limitations in terms of correlation with actual on-track performance.
Verstappen has acknowledged that although this tunnel will not be used for the first phase of development of the 2027 car, it will be essential for continued improvements throughout the season.
With the current competition more intense than ever, the team hopes that the new facility will provide added value that allows them to stand out again in the upcoming season.
