Stoffel Vandoorne got his first taste of the Aston Martin car during the two-day Pirelli F1 tyre test at Spa-Francorchamps along with Lance Stroll.

With the summer break, Pirelli held a two-day tyre test at Spa-Francorchamps on Tuesday and Wednesday where Aston Martin and McLaren ran the wet weather compound owing to the conditions prevailing at the circuit following on from Belgian GP.

It was Stroll for Aston Martin on Tuesday with Oscar Piastri driving the McLaren whereas Wednesday saw Vandoorne get his first drive of the AMR23 with Norris driving the MCL36. The Canadian completed 71 laps in all with the Belgian undertaking 53.

“It was great to be back in an F1 car today driving the AMR23,” said Vandoorne after driving the car at his home circuit. “It’s been a while and it was also my first time driving in green with Aston Martin.

“To do it at Spa was also very special for obvious reasons despite the wet weather. We ran on Wet tyres in the morning and then as conditions improved into the afternoon we ran through the programme on the Intermediate tyres. The car felt good even in these wet conditions and I enjoyed every lap.”
