Red Bull’s Sergio Perez set the pace in FP2 of F1 US GP from McLaren’s Lando Norris and Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton.
It was a much calmer FP2 session in F1 US GP in terms of stoppages, with two yellow flags for McLaren’s Lando Norris’ and Alpine’s Fernando Alonso’s off. There were lap deletions and traffic, which irked Red Bull’s Max Verstappen who did not complete his fast lap.
Verstappen also had a duel with Mercedes’ Hamilton from final corner to Turn 1 after the Brit jumped him on the lap before. The Dutchman had middle finger out while laughing off the matter as his teammate Perez led F1 US GP FP2 with a 1m34.946s lap.
McLaren’s Norris (1m35.203s) was second from Hamilton (1m35.310s), whose initial quick lap was deleted and he had to go around again. He did manage to teammate Valtteri Bottas (1m35.360s) though, as the other McLaren of Daniel Ricciardo (1m35.457s).
Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll (1m35.561s) was sixth with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc (1m35.572s) in seventh from Verstappen (1m35.824s), who eventually did not set his best time on the soft compound. The other Ferrari of Carlos Sainz (1m35.919s) was ninth.
Alfa Romeo did well to be 10th with Antonio Giovinazzi (1m36.138s), as Alpine’s Esteban Ocon was 11th from AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly, while Alonso was 13th. His session came to halt with two minutes to go after he spun off into the barrier in the final corner.
He managed to get back into the garage on his own, as Alfa Romeo’s Kimi Raikkonen was 14th from Aston Martin’s Sebastian Vettel, AlphaTauri’s Yuki Tsunoda, Haas’ Mick Schumacher, Williams’ Nicholas Latifi & George Russell and Haas’ Nikita Mazepin.
Apart from Verstappen, the only other to set his best time on the medium tyres was Vettel, who did not use any of the soft compound in all of the session.
