The new Toyota GR GT3 will make its competitive debut in Japan next November, ahead of its planned large-scale launch in 2027. This presentation will take place during the final of the SUPER GT category at the Motegi circuit, scheduled for November 7 and 8.

The Rookie Racing team, owned by Toyota President Akio Toyoda, will be responsible for participating with this new generation racing car, which will replace its usual Mercedes-AMG GT3 in the GT3 division. It is important to note that the participation will be as an ‘open’ entry, so it will not be eligible to earn points.

The selected drivers for this double event will be the two-time Super Formula champion, Hiroaki Ishiura, and the young 19-year-old driver, Tokiya Suzuki. Additionally, the car will compete on Bridgestone tires, even though Dunlop has been named the exclusive supplier for the GT300 class next year when the current contract ends.

The development of the GR GT3 by Toyota has been carried out over the years, with a first presentation at the Tokyo Auto Salon in 2022. Recently, the vehicle made its public appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, with Formula 1 driver Esteban Ocon at the helm during the famous climb. This year, the GR GT3 was also tested by World Rally Championship star Elfyn Evans.

Initially, Toyota had considered participating in some races in 2026, with the 24 Hours of Nürburgring as a key target. However, this plan did not materialize, and the company is now looking to offer a first opportunity for the GR GT3 before the year ends.

From next year, the GR GT3 will be available to customers and will replace the veteran Lexus RC F GT3. The new vehicle is also expected to compete in the LMGT3 division of the World Endurance Championship, alongside the ASP team.
