Championship leader Josef Newgarden has been fastest again in second practice season for the Sonoma GP, followed by his team mates Pagenaud y Castroneves.
Session began with Charlie Kimball and JR Hildebrand setting a discreet 1:19 laps, which would quickly drop to 1:18, but they would still be far from competitive times. There was much calm during the first minutes since only the two drivers named before, both Foyt cars and Zachary Claman De Melo went on track during the first 15 minutes.
With 30 minutes to go, more drivers began to go on track and Takuma Sato became the leader with a 1:17, but he was quickly beaten by Max Chilton. Few minutes later, Andretti Autosport cars took the lead and put three of their cars on top, with Alex Rossi in first place.
This, however, lasted short as Penskes went on track and Simon Pagenaud set the first 1:16 of the season. After this, the session was shortly red-flagged due to tho fans standing in a runoff area. As green flag waved again, Pagenaud and Josef Newgarden were commanding the season, with Scott Dixon third.
Finally, it was the standings leader, Newgarden, who took the best time again, followed by Pagenaud, Hélio Castroneves and Will Power. Dixon has finished sixth with Rossi eighth. Qualifying for Sonoma GP will be held tomorrow at 3:30 PM local, with the race scheduled on Sunday at the same hour.
