FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem is considering tweaks in Appendix B after listening to pleas from drivers of seven world championships.

After what happened in the latter half of 2024 F1 season, the FIA changed some of the rules under International Sporting Code. The major talking point fell under Appendix B, where the governing body listed the amount of fine that the drivers will have to pay if found guilty.

The F1 drivers were to be hit the hardest as they had to pay four times the base fine ranging between 10,000 euros to 45,000 euros. The other championships were divided into other categories, but the punishment was similar in terms of shelling out good amount of money.

As per the rule, the drivers could face suspension and deduction of points too. The offences ranged from swearing, showing misconduct, speaking ill off the officials and their decisions, etc. The F1 drivers held talks in Australia, which was largely fruitful. The WRC counterparts held their own as well.

The rally drivers came together after a hefty fine to Adrien Fourmaux. The discussions between the drivers and the FIA have resulted in a positive change potentially. For the first time, Sulayem has hinted on potential changes to Appendix B. It remains to be seen what amendments will be made.

“Following constructive feedback from drivers across our seven FIA World Championships, I am considering making improvements to Appendix B,” said Sulayem. “As a former rally driver, I understand the demands they face better than most. Appendix B is a key part of the International Sporting Code and is central in helping keep the sport accessible for all our sporting family.

“Humans make the rules and humans can improve the rules. This principle of continuous improvement is something I have always believed in and is at the heart of all we do at the FIA.” He further added: “By listening to one another and working collaboratively, we continue to drive a positive future for the sport we all care so deeply about.”
