Aston Martin has announced that Lance Stroll will not start the F1 Spanish GP on Sunday to undergo procedure on his injured wrist from 2023.

Ahead of the start of the 2023 F1 season, Aston Martin’s Stroll missed the pre-season test due to cycling incident which required surgery on his hand and wrist. Against all odds, he made it for the first round in Bahrain, driving with pain due to metal rods.

He saw-through the season and continued on in 2024 and also the current 2025 F1 season. He is the only one to score for the team this season. Having started the Spanish GP weekend, he qualified 14th for the race on Sunday.

But Aston Martin announced that Stroll will miss the grand prix to undergo a procedure on his hand and wrist. The team stated that he has been experiencing pain for the past six weeks and it has increased as much, which has forced him to skip the Sunday’s race.

Fernando Alonso will be the lone flag bearer on Sunday. It is unclear if he will compete in his home event in Canada, but with two weeks gap in between, it shouldn’t be a problem. The team has Felipe Drugovich and Stoffel Vandoorne in its reserve list.

“Over the course of the past six weeks Lance has been experiencing pain in his hand and wrist, which his medical consultant believes is in relation to the procedure he underwent in 2023,” said Aston Martin in a statement. “As a result his medical team have confirmed that he will not race tomorrow and he will undergo a procedure to rectify these issues before focusing on his recovery.”

Stroll has been summoned for missing the weighbridge during qualifying, but no decision has been taken yet by the FIA stewards. Here: https://www.fia.com/system/files/decision-document/2025_spanish_grand_prix_-_summons_-_car_18_-_post-qualifying_weighing.pdf
