Williams Racing informed that Sir Frank is back home from the hospital after a brief stay as F1 reveals fans’ selection of Turkish GP as the best 2020 race.
After informing that Sir Frank was admitted to hospital just after the F1 Abu Dhabi GP, Williams has now infirmed that the team’s founder/owner has since been released and is back home, recovering from an illness – which wasn’t declared by the outfit.
“We’re delighted to say that Sir Frank has been discharged from hospital and is now on the mend at home. The Williams family would like to thank everyone for their support during this difficult time, and to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,” stated a short statement.
Turkish GP chosen as best by F1 fans:
In an online poll conducted by F1 to rate the best grand prix of the 2020 season, the fans selected Turkish GP as the topmost with 33 percent of votes going for the returning race at Istanbul Park circuit, which was won dramatically by Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton.
The resurface made it tricky for all of the F1 teams during the weekend and rain added further to the drama, where multiple race leaders lost out in the conditions. It was eventually Hamilton on top, who claimed his seventh drivers’ title.
It was also the grand prix where Lance Stroll took pole as Racing Point teammate Sergio Perez and Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel ended up on the podium. The race in Turkey beat F1 Italian GP, which earned 25 percent of votes, which saw AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly on top.
A mid-race incident helped Gasly to emerge as the race leader ahead of McLaren’s Carlos Sainz and Stroll, where the Frenchman eventually fended off the Spaniard’s charge to score his first-ever F1 victory, while the other two had their second podium finishes.
The most-recent F1 Sakhir GP ended up third with 18 percent of votes, where Perez came through the field from 18th to win his first-ever grand prix – and potentially earn a Red Bull drive for 2021. It was a first podium for second-placed Renault’s Esteban Ocon, as well.
In third was Stroll, who registered his second podium of the 2020 F1 season. The grand prix also saw a thrilling debut for Mercedes’ George Russell, who was very close to score his first-ever grand prix win or even a podium after two hard years at Williams.
The 2020 F1 opener Austrian GP was ranked as fourth best with five percent of votes, while the Tuscan GP at Mugello was fifth with four percent of votes. The former was won by Mercedes’ Bottas ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and McLaren’s Lando Norris.
This happened after early trouble for Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and a collision between Alexander Albon and Hamilton. The race at Mugello saw Hamilton score the win from Bottas and Albon, in another dramatic race which saw a major mid-race pile-up.
