Schumacher to drive Michael’s car in Goodwood Festival of Speed

Mick Schumacher, F1

2011 Canadian Grand Prix, Friday

Mick Schumacher joins the list of drivers to drive F1 car in Goodwood Festival of Speed, as he is to drive Michael’s W02.

Mercedes has joined the list of F1 teams to be present at the Goodwood Festival of Speed slated for July 14-16 weekend. Unlike Williams, the German team will have non-regular drivers in attendance to drive the older machines.

Reserve driver Schumacher will be one of them, where he drive the W02 which his father Michael drove upon his return to F1 with Mercedes. The German will be supported by Esteban Gutierrez, who will drive the constructors’ title-winning, W12.

“It’s going to be spectacular to run in my Dad’s 2011 car, the W02, even if it is only a short run,” said Schumacher, who now gets to drive Michael’s Mercedes cars after driving some of the Ferrari ones. “Just experiencing this generation of cars will be mega.

“Knowing that he raced this car makes it extra special, and there will be many emotions coming with it. I have been lucky enough to drive one of his Benetton cars and some of the Ferraris he raced, but this will be the first time behind the wheel of a Mercedes he drove. I am sure I will get out of it with a big smile on my face.”

Schumacher and Gutierrez join Sebastian Vettel in attending and driving in Goodwood Festival of Speed. While Ferrari hasn’t revealed their names so far, Williams are fielding Alexander Albon, Logan Sargeant and Jamie Chadwick.

And finally, McLaren will have Mika Hakkinen, JJ Lehto, Emma Gilmour, Emerson Fittipaldi and Emanuele Pirro in driving capacity, while Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will be attendance in a meet and greet programme.
