Logan Sargeant is pleased that he never gave up in difficult F1 rookie season where he reckons he improved nicely by the end of it.

It wasn’t the rookie F1 season that Sargeant would have wanted where he had to fight to retain his Williams seat for the 2024 season. The American was only confirmed with a drive after the end of the year as the assessment continued on until the last event.

He certainly showed glimpses of performance but the continuous mistakes were taking a toll and if Williams would have lost seventh to AlphaTauri, it would have been tough on Sargeant as most of the points but one was contributed by Alexander Albon.

Sargeant, though, believes he stepped up nicely post the summer break. The biggest takeaway was him not giving up despite the rumours around his seat and a quite demand for him to give way to potential other rookies from the F2 grid.

“I still think the pace I’ve had since the summer break has been strong,” said Sargeant to media. “I haven’t always unlocked that potential and I think that’s the next step that needs to be made. But the fact it’s all there, is positive. And I feel like I’m starting to crack the code more and more as the season went on.

“Qualifying pace was massively improving toward the end of the year, but in terms of race pace as well, since the summer break it’s been so, so much closer. I’ve been disappointed with myself at times this season, of course, but I’ll never give up. I’ve given my all, all season. I’m not the type of person to ever give in.

“I think that showed in Vegas, this end of the season where the pace has been strong. I’m never the type to give up. I gave it everything all year and hopefully i can more in 2024.  The best chance to learn is when you take a step back and really look back at what’s happened, look back at what you could have done better, look back at the areas that need improving. And at the same time, just relaxing, let that sync in as well, whether you realise that or not, it is making a difference,” summed up Sargeant.
