Daniel Ricciardo, the former Formula 1 driver, has hinted at the possibility of returning to motorsport, although he claims that if he did, it would not be to seek a title. The Australian made a sudden exit from F1 at the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix when he was replaced in the Racing Bulls team by Liam Lawson.
In a recent appearance on the Speed Street podcast hosted by American driver Conor Daly, Ricciardo spoke about his exit from F1 and a potential return to competition in any series. “At the end of my career, I asked myself, ‘Why do I love this?’. I wanted to step back a bit to regain my relationship with racing,” he said.
When asked about a possible return, Ricciardo replied: “Never say never. Right now I’m enjoying not competing, enjoying the little things in life, without having to be in the spotlight”. He also commented that in the future, if he decided to return, it would be more for fun than to compete for a championship.
The eight-time Grand Prix champion added: “I don’t need a trophy for myself. This can sometimes take the pleasure out of racing. I want to make sure that if I ever decide to do something new, I can enjoy it without having to prove anything”.
Since his exit from F1, Ricciardo has continued to develop his brand Enchanté and has become an ambassador for Ford.
