James Vowles, team principal of Williams, has shared his opinion on the production delays the team has experienced during the winter and the early races of the 2026 Formula 1 season. According to Vowles, these difficulties could turn out to be “one of the best things” that could happen to the British squad.
In a live talk at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Vowles detailed the complications Williams has faced, currently sitting in eighth place in the constructors’ championship. The setbacks in winter have compromised the early dynamics of the season, significantly affecting the team’s initial performances.
The director added that, despite the frustration of not competing at the level the fans expect, it is essential to keep in mind that Williams is an independent team with a rich history. “We cannot rest on our legacy; we must use it as emotional fuel to move forward,” he commented.
Vowles highlighted that one of the main problems has been the lack of investment over the last two decades, which has hampered the team’s proper development. Structural changes are now being made that could have been avoided if these delays had not arisen. “Although losing two weeks may seem little, the impact is enormous,” he stated.
Despite the difficulties, Vowles remains optimistic, asserting that the delays have forced the team to make important changes that might not have been undertaken otherwise. “We are in a tough moment, but it is often when things are darkest that dawn is about to arrive,” he concluded, expressing confidence in his team’s ability to bounce back in the long term.
