The director of the Formula 1 team Red Bull, Laurent Mekies, has assured that he is not worried about Isack Hadjar’s performance during the recent Miami GP, where the French driver experienced a disastrous competition. Mekies highlights that the mistakes made by the team and by the driver himself were key factors in this situation.
Hadjar, who had started his stint at Red Bull with good expectations, was left behind compared to his teammate, Max Verstappen. While Hadjar finished the sprint in ninth place, Verstappen qualified in fifth. The situation became complicated for Hadjar when he was excluded from qualifying due to the illegality of his car’s setup.
Red Bull has admitted to making a mistake and has apologized to Hadjar, who had to start the race from the pitlane. Despite a promising start, where he climbed to 15th position, a lack of concentration led Hadjar to crash into a wall, breaking the left front suspension.
Mekies has stated that he does not consider this incident to be a cause for concern, viewing it more as an isolated accident after races in which Hadjar had demonstrated good pace and competence. “I don’t think we should classify it as a concern,” Mekies said. “There are still good indications that we will be competitive again in Montreal.”
The mistake of the illegal setup, which was discovered too late to correct, has been one of the factors affecting Hadjar’s performance. Mekies explained that, although Hadjar had the same type of setup as Verstappen, Red Bull did not detect the illegality during routine checks.
Hadjar, for his part, has acknowledged that he lost concentration, which contributed to his accident. “I was too anxious to make overtakes and that hurt me,” he admitted. “I don’t want another weekend like that. I need to work harder to improve my overall speed.”
Despite the setback in Miami, Hadjar has expressed confidence in improving his performance in the upcoming races, recognizing that despite his problems, he felt faster than in the previous two races.
