Fabio Quartararo, rider for Yamaha Factory Racing, has expressed his concerns about the fuel consumption problems that affected his performance during the Japanese Grand Prix, held last Sunday. The Frenchman finished the race in 12th place, the same position he started in, a result that does not stand out for its high level in a season marked by expectations of success.

Quartararo, who was the best representative of the team at the controls, pointed out that the fuel problem was not isolated. “It was difficult because from the seventh lap I had a fuel problem, so it wasn’t the best way to race,” he stated.

Despite his efforts, the rider had to manage his acceleration to avoid running out of fuel. “Between Turn 2 and Turn 3 I was at 70% throttle, as well as on the back straight and the main straight. I could have been faster, but unfortunately that was the situation,” he commented.

Quartararo could not clearly identify the cause of this high consumption, although he speculated about possible electronic issues. “I don’t know if the team expected to have less consumption, but I didn’t expect this problem, especially at the beginning when I was in the slipstream,” he added.

Furthermore, the lack of power from his Yamaha was evident, as the team occupied the last positions during the race. Quartararo acknowledged the lack of power, stating that, along with high consumption, it makes competition very difficult. “It’s never easy to know if I’ll finish the race or not because there is a green light, a yellow, and a red, and from the start I had the red,” he said.

Despite the adversities, his performance was positive in the context of the circumstances, but this experience only intensifies Quartararo’s desire to begin his stint with Honda in 2027.
