Max Verstappen ended up on top in lone FP1 session in F1 Qatar GP ahead of the Ferrari pair of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc.

It was sandy and dusty at the Lusail circuit to start the FP1 session in F1 Qatar GP. Throughout the session, multiple drivers had off moments at various parts of the track while trying to find limit and also stay on track in the conditions.

There was a mix of tyre compounds with majority using the hard and medium compounds. It was Red Bull’s Max Verstappen on top in the end with a 1m27.428s lap on the soft tyre ahead of Ferrari pair of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc.

They were also on the soft tyre unlike Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso in fourth, who set his best time on the medium compound. Red Bull’s Sergio Perez was fifth from AlphaTauri’s Yuki Tsunoda with Haas’ Nico Hulkenberg in seventh on the soft tyre.

Mercedes’ George Russell was eighth on the medium compound as the McLaren pair rounded out the Top 10 on the hard tyre where Oscar Piastri ended up ahead of Lando Norris. They led the Williams pair outside the Top 10.

It was Logan Sargeant ahead of Alexander Albon where the latter struggled a bit more but both set their best time on the soft tyre. Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton slotted in 13th from Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll and the pair of Alpine cars.

It was Esteban Ocon ahead of Pierre Gasly where all of the four cars set their best time on the medium compound. The soft runners rounded out the standings with Alfa Romeo’s Valtteri Bottas in 17th, Zhou Guanyu in 18th, AlphaTauri’s Liam Lawson in 19th and Haas’ Kevin Magnussen 20th.
