Prost named new Renault Sport Racing director as Bollore steps down

Grand Prix de Formule 1 d’Abu Dhabi 2018

Ex-F1 champion Alain Prost has been named as the new director of Renault Sport Racing after the termination of Thierry Yves Henri Bollore.

In a surprise turn of events, documents on the UK Companies House website shows a change at the helm of Renault Sport Racing Limited, with the termination of the contract for Bollore, who was only promoted/appointed in the role in January 2019.

Bollore was named as the CEO of the sporting division alongside Jean-Dominique Senard as the company’s Chairman in a new structure adopted to replace Carlos Ghosn, who resigned late in January. Under the duo is Jerome Stoll, who continued in his presidential role.

As per the document, Bollore resigned on July 12, with a formal announcement yet to come from Renault. His position goes to four-time F1 world champion Prost, who has been with the French manufacturer in an advisory role since 2017.

This puts Prost in a senior role within the management like how Niki Lauda did with Mercedes, with Stoll likely to report to the Frenchman in the racing matters. As for Bollore, it looks like he will focus more on the automotive side, especially the alliance with Nissan.
