Pirelli has revealed the tyre compounds which will be put for teams to use in the first four races of the 2019 season with the new style takes centerstage.
Following the seven compounds used in the 2018 season with seven different names, Pirelli were asked to simplify how the tyres is presented in 2019. The new season will see three standard colours with white, yellow and red in use.
White will denote the hardest compound with yellow being the mid range and red being the softest available. There will be five range of compounds to be used with C1 being the hardest followed by C2, C3, C4 and C5 respectively.
All the compounds from the 2018 season is different apart from the soft tyre which hasn’t been altered. As per the rules, Pirelli has 14 weeks deadline for flyaway races to reveal the compounds for the first four races which they have done now.
The 2019 season-opener in Australia will see C2, C3 and C4 as the choices for the teams to opt for – C2 being medium but slightly on the softer side, C3 being soft and C4 is between the 2018’s ultrasoft and hypersoft.
The same choices will feature in the races in China and Azerbaijan as well – the Round 3 and 4 of the season as Round 2 in Bahrain will see the three hardest compounds in use with C1, C2 and C3.
The early selection is done on the basis of the two-day Pirelli test which all the teams participated in at Yas Marina Circuit post the 2018 F1 season. The Italian manufacturer used the data to finalise the choices.
