Pirelli Motorsport has a disrupted wet tyre test for 2025 F1 season at Magny-Cours with rain being too much for the Mercedes to run whole lot.
Day 1 –
Today should have been a day of wet weather tyre testing at the Magny-Cours circuit, but in fact there was actually too much rain for the test to proceed! The circuit that hosted the French Formula 1 Grand Prix 18 times from 1992 to 2008, is playing host to the Pirelli test team for two days, to continue development work for next year’s tyres.
Providing support is the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team, with its reserve driver, Mick Schumacher at the wheel of the F1W15 today. Unfortunately, the bad weather meant any meaningful work was almost impossible, the German driver completing just 29 laps, the quickest in a time of 1’39”72. Testing continues tomorrow, again with Mercedes, when driving duties will fall to George Russell.
Day 2 –
Second day of testing for Pirelli at Magny-Cours, carried out with support from the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team, fielding George Russell at the wheel of an F1W15. After rain made for limited track time yesterday, the weather again had its say today, with occasional rain and rather cool conditions. Therefore, development of the extreme wet and intermediate tyres was able to continue starting with the work that it had not been possible to carry out yesterday.
By the end of the day, the English driver had completed 86 laps, equivalent to 379.7 kilometres, the quickest in a time of 1’28”428. Pirelli’s development testing resumes next week, on Tuesday 8 and Wednesday 9 at the Mugello circuit. Three teams will be on hand: Red Bull Racing and Ferrari will work on tyres for next season, while McLaren will be the second team to play its part in supporting Formula 1’s Global Tyre Supplier in the development of tyres for 2026.
